Here at 1909, we’re of the belief that things are to be crafted with care – without a detail over-looked, without an inch left unconsidered. Because when you’re investing in cabinetry, be it for a kitchen or a boot room, it deserves only the most generous investment of time, effort, energy and expertise from us. And in return, you’ll have a piece of furniture that will stand by you, day in day out, year after year, for generations to come.
Your 1909 kitchen begins here at our County Durham headquarters where our designers come up with our concepts. From the detailed beading surrounding our doors, to the wine rack or vegetable drawers within a tailored pantry, and even our handle designs – it’s all carefully drawn in-house, promising authenticity over every inch of your furniture.
Straight from design to the hands of our craftsmen, your kitchen gets taken off the page and transformed into a tailored product all under one roof. From the expert joinery behind your cabinetry, to our precision worksurface manufacturing and paint application, it’s all hand-finished by us to achieve the meticulous detail for which we’re recognised - carefully balancing traditional handicraft and steadfast modern-day machinery.
Because we offer in-house manufacturing, we decided to carve out an area dedicated to bespoke commissions. From made-to-measure dimensions, to getting creative with tailored mantels, island ends and the internal construction of our pantries (prefer a section for a coffee machine at the bottom and a wine rack above? No problem), our in-house joiners can make it all happen.
One of the many things that makes our furniture special is that we top it all off with a worksurface sourced and sculpted by our careful combination of deftly skilled hands and state-of-the-art machinery. Imagine huge slabs of granite arriving at our stone-yard which we then coax into the pristine worksurfaces that make up our collection. And because we look after the whole fabrication process from design through to installation, we can tailor our surfaces just as we do your cabinets – any size, any profile, any finish.
The final but perhaps most important point to note is that we care about crafting in the kindest way possible. A 1909 kitchen is constructed from sustainably harvested alder wood on the outside, together with strongest, rigid cabinets made from 40% recycled materials on the inside. Designed to stand the test of time, it’s a much-needed antidote to throwaway culture.
Our manufacturing has achieved Planet Mark certification and is also Carbon Neutral certified by Ecologi, and our Head of Sustainability is guiding us towards being fully Net Zero by 2050 – a great commitment to make our Great British business greater still.
