The brief

When the clients purchased their Victorian property it had some stunning features, however the previous owners’ kitchen was not one of them. With a mismatch of finishes and colours, the kitchen was very small with a poor layout. Achieving exactly the right look, feel and functionality for the kitchen was very important to the clients and they opted for the elegant half pencil & scalloped cabinetry, as they believed this was very much in keeping with the period of their home. Chalk has been used as the primary colour for the furniture, which keeps the space light and airy, with the island as an accent in charcoal. This classic monochrome mix has a timeless aesthetic and is also perfect for blending with other materials and colours. The worktops are bianco carrera marble with a feature full stave oak piece on the island. The new design has an ergonomic layout that also maximises the view through to the newly extended dining space. As the property is in a conservation area the extension was subject to strict planning regulations and is constructed with reclaimed bricks, so is sympathetic to the original build. The new design benefits from lots of storage, including a discreet pantry which leads off the main kitchen towards the rear of the island. This is the ideal location for storing small appliances, recipe books and other useful items, neatly out of view.
